The Welcome Project

Oldham Baptist Church

splat

Overview

The Welcome Project began in 2005 and is a three-way partnership between Oldham Baptist Church, Oldham Unity and The British Red Cross. The project was set up to meet the needs of destitute asylum seekers who find themselves in Oldham and the surrounding areas. As a church our main involvement is one of hospitality and manning the kitchen as it were. Oldham Unity attempt to meet the needs of the asylum seekers with food distribution and other practical aid, while The British Red Cross are involved with the official documentation that is required when new people seek the help of our project. Each week we can serve anything up to 100 people with a hot meal donated by one of our Muslim brothers. The project runs every Thursday from 12:30- 2:30pm, and the only days we do not meet are on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
