Overview
Customers who have built up a lot of water debt may be eligible for the United Utilities Payment Matching scheme. This means the company contributes £1 for every £1 the customer pays, with the company's contribution increasing to £2 after 12 months if the customer continues to make payments until the debt is cleared.

Customers who have built up a lot of water debt can apply for the United Utilities Payment Matching scheme. For every £1 the customer pays towards their outstanding debt, the company will pay £1 too. If the customer continues to make regular payments, the company will increase its contribution to £2 after 12 months until the debt is cleared. Customers need to be able to afford their current ongoing water charges, plus a contribution of £4.25 a week towards their arrears to be accepted onto the scheme.
To apply for this scheme the customer needs to call 0800 072 6765. UU can normally approve the customer being transferred onto this scheme there and then over the telephone.
