Additional Information

For over 35 years, Home-Start has been providing support and services to the families of St Helens. Our approach is marked by compassion and confidentiality, offering tailored assistance to each family we help.

We believe in the critical importance of a stable, loving, and nurturing environment for a child's early years, as these form the foundation for their future development. Home-Start ensures that no child's potential is limited by providing support during these formative years.

Our local community network comprises trained volunteers and experts dedicated to assisting families with children during their challenging times. We offer a variety of volunteer roles to cater to different needs, such as Family Support Volunteers who provide help with child development, community connections, mental health support, and more.

Our Young Person's Volunteer Mentors focus on aiding young individuals aged 11 to 19 who may be experiencing school refusal due to anxiety or bullying. Additionally, we have School Readiness Volunteers who support pre-school children identified as needing milestone assistance and Walk & Talk Volunteers who help parents improve their overall well-being through interactions with other parents.

We take pride in our volunteers, many of whom have successfully transitioned into paid employment in fields like social work, nursing, pastoral or teaching assistant roles, and more. Volunteering with Home-Start offers individuals valuable experience, transferable skills, and boosts their confidence and self-esteem, making them better equipped for job opportunities.

We invest in getting our volunteers ready by providing a comprehensive Prep Course that familiarizes them with Home-Start and family support principles. After completion, they receive guidance and supervision while supporting a family, ensuring they have the necessary support and feedback throughout their volunteering journey.

At Home-Start, we strongly believe in promoting a happy and secure childhood for children, with parents playing a crucial role in their well-being and development. Our mission is to offer support, friendship, and practical assistance to parents in local communities, strengthening their bonds with their children and the community at large.

We are committed to equality and diversity, actively working to address underrepresentation in ethnicity, gender, disability, class, and age within our staff team and Trustee Board. Our services are fully accessible and inclusive, ensuring that we can cater to the diverse needs of all families and individuals in our community.
