The Men's Room

splat

Overview

The Men’s Room is an arts and social support charity that works creatively to empower disadvantaged and marginalised young men and Trans people aged 18-30. We support male sex workers, homeless men and men involved in the criminal justice system. We offer them opportunities to get involved in high quality arts projects whilst accessing one to one support for challenges they face in their everyday lives.

Our work engages young men experiencing multiple disadvantage, including homeless men, sex workers, men with experience of sexual exploitation, offenders, and men struggling with mental health problems and substance misuse. We work with artists on a diverse range of projects throughout the year, whilst also offering outreach services and personalised support to our service users.

Additional Information

Our approach combines creativity with traditional social care support, offering the men respite and a space for reflection, whilst also giving them a creative outlet they wouldn’t otherwise get. This allows them to engage with positivity and creativity, to be young men. The Men’s Room has staff, partners and volunteers from both the arts and social care agencies.

We work to reduce social isolation in our service users. With the help of our donors and volunteers, we nurture the men’s self confidence, enabling them to take control of their own lives.

Creative work is a the core of The Men’s Room provision.

Every project is different and art forms we have engaged with include, drama, music, photography, creative writing, film making and visual Arts.

An inclusive participatory arts group providing the opportunity to experience and try out a range of creative activities and art forms – e.g. drama, photography, music as well as free visits to the theatre and art exhibitions. The options for what we do are limitless and we are always looking for new ideas.

Sessions start with a home cooked meal ranging from delicious stews, curries and fajitas all the way to the humble (but much loved) cheese toastie! So the group is a chance to eat good food, make some new friends and have a laugh.

We always have some of the lovely health / social care team with us, so if you want to book an appointment to discuss any issues, you can also do this.
